What is reality when consciousness comes first? It’s not just a question of philosophy—it’s a radical shift in how we understand existence. If awareness is the foundation, then the world isn’t a fixed stage we walk onto, but a living process we’re always shaping. Reality becomes less about what’s “out there” and more about how perception and intention interact with the energy of existence. In this view, everything we experience is co-created, a dynamic exchange between consciousness and the world. The question isn’t just what reality is, but how we’re all participating in its unfolding.

The funny thing about the world is that just when we think we have it all figured out, it throws a curveball at us. We are suddenly forced to contemplate the possibility that what we thought was true, undeniable fact, may be an entirely different creature altogether.
In the past, I have mentioned how people are often appalled by the fact that items they spoke about out loud may, in time, show up in their social media feeds. The general consensus is that your phone is listening to you, acting as a digital spy. But I once proposed a different perspective: what if your phone is indeed listening, but some of that synchronicity A phenomenon where external events align with internal thoughts in a way that suggests a deeper, non-causal connection. is not the result of surveillance? What if it is instead the result of your mind and the laser focus of your attention?
Imagine you are thinking about the best flavor of cough syrup or why rattlesnakes have rattles. When these obscure topics appear in your feed, perhaps they aren’t just advertisements. Perhaps you are thinking a thing into being, allowing it to become real through whatever synchronistic method is best applicable. Those impossibly sensitive phones in our pockets run on electrons Quantum particles of energy that power all modern technology, known for behaving both as solid matter and as waves. , which is really just a sophisticated name for a power so strange it borders on the miraculous. These tiny bits of light and energy don’t follow any “sane” rules of logic; they blink in and out of existence like ghosts in the machine. When you consider the constant quantum fluctuations dancing inside those microscopic chips, you have to wonder: is your social media feed just an algorithm, or is it a digital mirror reflecting your own inner spark right back at you?
Electrons The primary carriers of electricity, existing in a state of constant flux. are the ultimate cosmic paradox, behaving less like tiny billiard balls and more like caffeinated ghosts that refuse to be pinned down. They exist in a state of “superposition,” The quantum principle where a particle exists in all possible states simultaneously until it is observed. meaning they don’t occupy a single point in space but rather haunt a cloud of probability, being everywhere and nowhere until you have the audacity to look at them. Their “spin” is even more nonsensical; it isn’t a physical rotation like a spinning top, but an intrinsic mathematical property that requires an electron to pull a full 720-degree turn just to get back to where it started. Beneath this, the vacuum they inhabit isn’t empty but a boiling sea of quantum fluctuations, where “virtual particles” wink in and out of existence like flickering neon signs. They defy every rational intuition we possess, proving that the very foundation of our solid world is built on a shimmering, irrational magic that operates by its own inscrutable set of rules.
Consciousness as the Foundation
When we begin to explore esoteric thought and energetic disciplines, a profound shift takes place. The ground beneath our reality starts to move, not outwardly in a physical sense, but inwardly in how we perceive what is real. The deeper we go into energy work and inner alchemy, the more we find that the universe responds directly to awareness. Consciousness stops being a passenger in the cosmic vehicle and is revealed as the driver.
In the ordinary, materialist view, consciousness is seen as an emergent property of matter, like a fleeting side effect of complex biology or a simple byproduct of the “meat machine” you are supposedly inhabiting. But as one begins to perceive energy, a reversal occurs. You start to see that consciousness is not a byproduct of physicality; it is the bedrock upon which everything physical arises.
In this view, what you call “matter” is condensed thought. What you call “spirit” or “energy” is fluid awareness flowing through the strata of existence. Every layer of the world corresponds to a level of energy intensity, formed and sustained by attention. What we observe as purely physical is simply the densest, collectively focused level of energy, stabilized by the shared intent of billions of perceivers.
The Two Worlds of Reality
Reality is a living spectrum rather than a static line. At one end lies the dense, slow vibrations of the physical plane: the world of bodies, stones, and gravity. At the other, we find the subtle currents of thought, dream, and possibility. For the sake of simplicity, we can call these World One (the physical) and World Two (the imaginal).
The line between the “real” and the “imagined” is far less stable than the modern skeptic is willing to believe. Each of these layers is real within its own energetic domain. Each of these layers is completely real in its own neighborhood.
Your dreams are made of the exact same “stuff” as your waking life. The only real difference is that the physical world is more solid and stays put, whereas a dream is a bit more fluid and tends to shift the moment you stop paying attention to it. A dream is fleeting because its structure is maintained by the shifting focus of personal awareness, whereas the physical world persists because collective consciousness feeds it continuously, creating a vast agreement field.
First and foremost, you create your own reality, meaning you possess your own individual world. Beyond this, the layers of existence expand:
World One (Physicality): This is the shared human world we all recognize as physical reality which is the world we materialize as a species.
Alien Other-Worlds: Beyond our sphere are physicalities created by other beings. These are wholly complete alien worlds, as real as our own, existing in other dimensions.
World Two (The Imaginal): For the most part (and with few exceptions), these alien worlds currently exist for you only within World Two, the inner reality known as the imaginal/dreams.
Multidimensional Coherence
As a multidimensional being, you exist within the many-fold realities available to you. The coherence of these spaces (the degree to which they appear real and concrete) is determined by your cognitive position, The focal point of your awareness that stabilizes a specific reality into a ‘concrete’ experience. which is created through the extended focus of your attention. The focus of attention can be trained.
World One (the physical world) by the way, is actually full of holes, and World Two (inner reality) is constantly at the odd angles of creation trying to bleed into physical reality. This “bleed” is the birth of what we call magic, the source of all mystery and true creativity.
What Isn’t Real?
If consciousness is primary, the notion of something being “unreal” becomes paradoxical. Even an illusion has existence as an energetic construct. What we call “unreal” is simply unstable, a formation not yet fully anchored in attention.
Look at an object before you, perhaps a cup or a building. Imagine around it a cloud of potential. If you could see this cloud, you would see various aspects of that object materializing and dematerializing like an ever-changing aura cloud of possibilities. This is the nonlocal A state where an object exists beyond the limits of space and time, connected to all other possibilities. (superposition) aspect of the object existing in World Two. Everything exists in both worlds simultaneously. We simply train ourselves to see one narrow aspect of a vast conglomeration of essence. Unreality is not nothingness; it is energy not yet shaped.
Energetic Alchemy and the Power of Attention
This understanding is the heart of inner alchemy. The art of internal transformation, using focused willpower to reshape one’s perception of reality. The alchemist learns that attention is the philosopher’s fire, the divine flame that alters the energetic structure of the world. By focusing awareness deliberately, one transmutes energy from the subtle into the dense.
To shift your perception is to shift your energetic signature. In a consciousness-first universe, creation and perception are the same act viewed from opposite directions.
Living as an Energetic Being
As your ontology The study of the nature of being; how we define what it means to ‘exist’. becomes grounded in this model, a new way of living opens up. Within this context, ontology is the study of your “nature of being.” For example, if your ontology shifts from “I am a body having a thought” to “I am a consciousness projecting a body,” your entire interaction with the world changes. You begin to see the world as a responsive, fluid thing that grows and is shaped by your attention.
Everything is real to the degree that you or others energize it. While we separate these aspects into World One and World Two for convenience, we truly exist within an infinite range of frequencies. This fluidity across dimensions is what allows for true creation and negates the modern idea of finiteness.
Closing Affirmations
We often forget who we are. We forget that we are the creators of our own reality. For that reason, I created The Book of Remembering. You can think of it like a hidden key that vibrates, helping your mind develop new neural connections to manipulate the dynamic fluidity between worlds.
The Exercise of the Bleed
To understand the power of imagination bleeding into the “real” world, perform this simple contemplation regarding the transition from the imaginal to the physical.
STEP 1The Seed: Think of a significant historical or personal event, such as a great conflict or a grand invention. Before it was a fact in World One, it was a ghost in World Two. It was a thought, a fear, or a dream held in the mind.
STEP 2The Visualization: Close your eyes and visualize a small, specific object that does not exist in your room right now, perhaps a blue feather or a specific antique coin. See it in World Two with as much detail as possible. Feel its texture and weight in your mind. Now open your eyes and try to use your playful imagination to see it as a fact in World One.
STEP 3The Observation: For the next three days, keep a “bleed log.” Do not hunt for the object, but remain alert. Notice when themes, colors, or conversations related to your World Two object start to ripple into your World One experience. You may come across synchronicities, omens, strange events that point to this once vividly imagined object. You may come across social media feed talking about blue feathers or antique coins!
The Contemplation: Reflect on the moment World War One ended and the ideas that led to World War Two began to form. They were ideas before they were iron. How much of your current “solid” reality is actually just the solidified imagination of yesterday? And here is a curveball for you; how much of what you think is actual historic fact, could actually be imagination? And is there a difference?
